Douglas Hyde Centre

Douglas Hyde Centre

The Douglas Hyde Interpretative centre is an exhibition and information centre dedicated to this remarkable man – the first President of Ireland. His contribution to modern Ireland is traced through the medium of information charts, books of his poems and prose, personal items, letters, maps and photography. Through audio visual material and audio guides the spirit of his dream is captured.

The Douglas Hyde Interpretative Centre will captivate:

  • A synopsis of the 1st President of Ireland, Dr. Douglas Hyde
  • A historical overview of all Irish presidents
  • A summary of the evolution of the Irish language
  • ‘Gairdín an Chraoibhín’ – the underlying concept of the landscaping here shows trees and shrubs that are sacred in the old Irish literature and illustrate an ancient ‘Calendar Alphabet’ system.
