Roscommon Association Birmingham

The Roscommon Association, Birmingham was founded in 1955 and was one of the first County Associations in the city. It was founded at The Handsworth, Birmingham at the home of Lilly Lawrie by a group of Roscommon natives to support the influx of immigrants from Roscommon arriving in the city for the first time. Doctor Laurie a Scotsman, whose wife Kathleen who was from Boyle was the first Chairperson. The Association has a proud record of pointing emigrants in the right direction for accommodation and employment. Since its foundation it has raised funds for charities and schemes both in Birmingham and Roscommon as well as being a forum for promoting and supporting Irish Culture.
