A thriving market town, Castlerea is the third most important town in county Roscommon, and is beautifully situated in wooded countryside on the banks of the River Suck. Adjacent to the town is a 9-hole golf course where the River Suck, the natural parkland and mature trees form an integral part of this lovely course.

Clonalis house, home of the O’Conor family, which provided kings and high kings throughout Ireland’s history, is located just outside the town, on the banks of the river. There is an O’Conor in residence to this day.
